  • Gym & Dance Show at Princes Risborough School

    Fri 12 Jul 2024

On Tuesday 9th July the Gym & Dance club went to Princes Risborough School to perform in the Gym & Dance Show.  We did a dance to Cotton Eyed Joe and during the rehearsal everyone was singing while we were dancing, everyone from the club performed in that.  Then some of KS2 performed a gymnastics routine to Roar.  The rest of KS2 and KS1 performed a gymnastic routine to Happy.  Before we performed we were really nervous once we were on stage we really enjoyed it.

  • Year 6 STEM Week

    Fri 28 Jun 2024

This morning, Louis Witney's mum came to talk to us about her job at Ercol, a furniture making company in HIgh Wycombe. She had organised lots of fun activities for us to do. We were split into four teams, High Vis 1+2 and Goggles 1+2. In our groups, we had to make a chair, guess the dates of when they were made, guess how much a colourful chair was (£1200! that was really unexpected!) and organise a historical timeline. After everyone had finished those activities, we played guess the answer. That was so much fun. Finally, we tallied up the points to see who won (dum, dum, dum...) HIgh Vis won, which was really great.  HIgh Vises' got 163 points whereas Goggles got 143 points. Not that much between them. Everyone who won was given a shiny gold medal to celebrate their success.

  • MicroBits

    Fri 14 Jun 2024

On Tuesday we set my MicroBits to play rock paper scissors shoot.  MicroBits are tiny little computers that you can plug into your computer/pc to programme to do what you want.  Some of our computers suffered an error because it didn’t download properly onto the MicroBits.  So we spotted our mistake and corrected this and then successfully downloaded it.

Once you have programmed it you can unplug it to carry out the investigation.  We programmed it so that when you shake the MicroBit three times it will change from rock, paper or scissors.  An image appears of one of these things so that you know if you are the winner.

It was a fun activity that we would recommend for KS2 to do.

  • RNLI Visit to Year 6

    Fri 14 Jun 2024

Today we were visited by Chris and Andy from the RNLI.  It was Chris' last presentation- he has been visiting schools for it for 14 years. We learnt what the different flags meant at beaches and how to stay safe on the beach.  He told us about some of the rescues that had happened for the lifeboat crew - one was 19 hours long - and they rescue both people and animals.  Our closest lifeboat station is Teddington in London on the River Thames. We learnt that life jackets aren't inflated on land but inflate when you get in the water. We got to try the clothing on and it was big. The clothing is tight to not let any water in.

  • 'Great Play Time' Training

    Wed 12 Jun 2024

All staff had a fantastic time learning what makes a 'Great play time' and the role that loose parts can play in making children's free time good to great, with some brilliant training from Mrs Thomas after school on Wednesday. We are excited to see how our Monks Mindset Heroes enable the children and adults to thrive at play times and lunch times - learning never ends! Here are some photos of us having a great time using the resources on the field. How will your child play with them?

  • Year 2 Visit to Maidenhead Synagogue

    Mon 10 Jun 2024

Year 2 Visit to the Maidenhead Synagogue

First when we arrived we met Sara who was going to take us round the Synagogue.  We saw the Star of David made of wood which represents the Jewish people who visit there. Then we went inside to the Grand Hall where lots of things happen like celebrations and meals dancing and singing.  Next we went to the Prayer room and saw the eternal light and the ark which was beautiful and made of wood and metal.  Inside the ark we saw the Torah Scroll which can be as long as a football pitch.  The Torah Scroll is like a history book which can take a year to write.  When Jewish people read they read from right to left.  We also saw a Lego model of the second Synagogue in Jerusalem.  We also were able to touch the Yard which is used to touch the Torah Scroll as you can’t touch it with your hands.  After this we had some squash and a cookie.  We loved our morning and it was very interesting.
