This half term our main topic is entitled 'Amazing Africa' With a focus on geography, we are going to learn all about Kenya. The highlight of this will be a trip to Whipsnade Zoo to look at all the African animals that live there.
This topic will link to our DT, where we will be making animal hand puppets, which will help us to learn or develop our sewing skills.
In science we will again explore Living Things and their habitats, with a focus on what we can discover in the grounds of Monks Risborough School and a mini safari to look at animals from Kenya.
In mathematics we will begin our journey with fractions. We will then look at time (a tricky topic, please look at lots of clocks at home!) and consolidate our knowledge surrounding the four operations - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
In music we will explore the sounds and rhythms of the African drums.
Our RE focus will be consider how Jesus and Christian's shared the good news of the Easter Story, looking at prayer and how this can help us be closer to God.
In English we will have two focus books:
Lila and the Secret of the Rain by David Conway and Jude Daly
The Ugly Five by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler
Well what a busy start to our term!
We have be learning fractions by using our outdoor space to employ how fractions work practically. The children can tell you all about half, quarters and thirds !
English
The children were excited to learn that they are making their own book! The first two weeks we have been focusing on the basics of sentence structure and next week we will begin planning. I hope you will enjoy the books, when they eventually get home to you. The stories are based on our book Lila and the Secret of the rain.
Geography
We have had the most exciting start to this topic with our visit to Whipsnade Zoo. What a beautiful day! We were so lucky to see such amazing animals.
