In Science this term we are learning about natural selection. We explore who Charles Darwin was, and the impact of his research on adaption. We pretended to be Galapagos finches and completed our own natural selection experiment, finding out whether the shape of a beak affects what food a bird can eat. We discovered lots! Birds who eat small seeds need sharp pointy beaks, whereas birds who eat larger nuts and 'peas', can have a larger, flatter beak. We also look at which breed of birds would die out - for example, the breed of birds who need to eat seeds but have chopstick shaped beaks - virtually impossible!
