Monks Risborough CE Primary School

Our Local Area

Our lead subject is Geography for Our Local Area topic this half term, where we study where our school is, where we live and what it is like there. We even learn our home address in order to be safe. We are aiming to answer the question 'How can we respect our local area?' by the end of our learning journey.

We are studying a number of books this term to help us learn more about our local area. Please enjoy these stories at home too once we have read them.

It has been a fantastic month! We've learned our days of the week, demonstrated our skills in subitising and are learning about part whole models. Number bonds will be next in Maths! Our Geography learning has been so fun, we've even used rolls of wallpaper in provision to make our own aerial view maps. One of our favourite things was our walk to the postbox. We wrote our addresses and stuck on a stamp to our envelope to send a special message to our families at home. It was so much fun. Because we walked so safely, Mrs Horton said we could have a play in the park.

This month we have thrown ourselves into learning how to be a Wren!

We have learned to form our around letters correctly, practising these inside and outside. Maths lessons have helped to remind us how to count to ten, using objects and resources to help us. We learnt how to classify animals into groups by their features and their diet. We made Gruffalo traps to try and capture the pesky Gruffalo, seen by Mr Ward in our vegetable patch! Languages Day was filled with lots of exciting lessons and visitors.
