Welcome to Falcons Class Page!
This term, Falcons have been looking at how the heart and lungs help our body to function. We have been very lucky to explore the four chambers of an animal heart through a dissection experiment and we also got a chance to look at the bronchioles and alveoli in the lungs. Some of the children were able to touch the heart! We are also researching how we can keep our heart and lungs healthy, and debating the history and ethical issues of organ donation and transplantation.
As part of this, we have been using our whole class text of Pig Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman to improve our reading and writing skills. From this, we have worked hard to improve the character description of Cam (sorry Malorie Blackman) and also written a persuasive letter from Cam to his mother. Over the next few weeks, we will be re-writing part of the story from a different perspective and also creating an exciting newspaper article.
In Maths, we have been focusing upon our topic of place value and improving our understanding of rounding. We have particularly enjoyed reciting our rounding rhyme and listening to our Roman Numerals song! The children have been working hard to build on their mathematical understanding in Year 4 to help master this new knowledge. I think it is safe to say that Falcons' favourite maths game this term is Times Table Bingo!
We are looking forward to the rest of the year, where we will have the opportunity to study the Vikings, the coasts surrounding our country, life cycles and the Tudor times! There will be lots more exciting learning opportunities to come!
