    'No Mow May'

Monks Eco Team would like to announce that the school is taking part in 'No Mow May' which will hopefully encourage insects and wildlife to visit the school green areas and support biodiversity, something which we are passionate about.

We will be cordoning off an area of the Key Stage 2 play green area and a section of the school field (where the saplings and wildflowers are planted).

Year 5 Visit to Oxford Science Museum.

On Thursday 30th May,  we went to the Oxford Science Museum and planetarium, it was so fun there were three activities during the day. The first thing we did was the Exploration zone.

Firstly, we went to the Exploration zone ( a room of fun gadgets and experiments) where everywhere I looked there were fun games.  There were microscopes, tubes of air that shot out balls and scarves, thermal cameras, brain teasers and animations that were fascinating.  Some of the games made you think really hard to find out the answer.

Next, we went to the changing states workshop, where with your partner we wore really cool goggles and used a candle to test materials and how they changed and reacted to heat.  Our workshop leader Kate told us what we tested and how they changed, it was so fun.  My favourite part of the workshop was caramelising sugar ( that sugar melted fast) personally this was my favourite part of the day.

Finally we went to the planetarium and saw cool images of the milky way, the sun, galaxies and stars.  We went to the moon and it felt like we were flying. We went to an inflatable dome which made a funny noise.  When we spoke (which we didn't) it echoed really loudly, my favorite part was looking at the milky ways.
