Year 4 visit to the Neasden Temple.
When we got there we took our shoes off and put them in a special room just for shoes and coats. Then we waited for some other school to arrive and then sat on the carpet and watched a video about how they built the temple. Next we went upstairs to see the statues of the Gods they believe in and we had to be very careful and quiet. We watched they candle dance which they sang with and waved candles around the Gods they were men dressed in beautiful cloth, everything was very precious. There were lots of Gods and carvings on the walls. We prayed to some of the Gods. We then went on to a balcony that we could see everything as it was very high up. We then went downstairs in groups to do a treasure hunt we were looking for different Hindu items and answering questions. All our body parts had to be covered apart from our hands and faces, grown-ups should cover their faces if they were a lady. We had our lunch outside sitting on marble benches and we got a bit wet, and then we had our photo taken by the gold statue.

We are learning about Princes Risborough in Year 2. On Thursday we left the school crossed the crossing. We walked down past the post box crossed the road and walked passed St Dunstan’s church. We ended up in St Dunstan’s park by the Dovecot and we walked passed the other school. We went across the zebra crossing up to the High Street walking near the market house and continued to the library passing Dominoes. We went in the library and had a look at some books, Mrs Shea read ‘I don’t like curly hair’ it was a good book. We walked along towards High Wycombe and crossed the road to go to the Baptist Church, we had our snack and drinks in the hall. Then we walked back down the High Street going past St Mary’s Church through Church Lane past Wades Field turning up towards the zebra crossing and back to Monks School.

On Tuesday and Wednesday all the classes went to the church to sing their harvest songs or read their poems. Year 6 performed a sea shanty, Year 5 a George Ezra song, Year 4 sang the Harvest Samba, Year 3 read a poem 'The Ballard of Harvest Past'. All of KS1 performed Combine Harvester song. KS1 brought their harvest donations on Tuesday and on Wednesday KS2 brought their various donations for the One Can Trust. We believe the parents enjoyed watching their children celebrate harvest.

As part of our celebration of languages on European Day of Languages last week, we held a competition to design a T shirt for EDL 2025. Each class submitted their best designs and 6 lucky winners (one from each class) will have their T shirt design entered into the national competition. If one of our entries is chosen, it will be used as the design for T shirts on EDL 2025!

European Day of Languages 26th September 2024
Harrison Falcons Class - 'We had lots of fun learning different languages and finding out about different cultures. We learnt that some places in the world have two different types of writing. In our French cafe at Break, the croissants were delicious!'
Libby Kestrels Class - 'I like European Day of Languages because different visitors came in who we don't normally see and it's fun to learn different languages. It was fun when we were taught Chinese because China is very different. My favourite part about European Language Day was going to the French café.'
