  • Fire Engine Visit Year 2

    Thu 16 Mar 2023

Last week a red fire engine came to school because we were learning about the difference between fire fighters in the past and the present. We got to use hose we were allowed to climb across the back seats and there were teddies in there to make the children feel happy if they lost their teddies.  The fireman put on the alarm and lights for to hear and see.  Miss Dell dressed in the fireman’s outfit it was very hot and sweaty.  It was wonderful and amazing to see them.

  • Year 1 Visit to Shuttleworth Collection

    Fri 10 Mar 2023

Year 1 are doing a topic about planes so went to visit the Shuttlworth Collection.  Shuttleworth is a big museum that has old vehicles from the past.  We went on a coach, when we arrived we met our guides and then we went to where we were leaving our lunches.  We started with the Red Plane – it won race from England to Africa it took two people they were really brave and flew over the Atlantic Ocean.  Then we looked at the time line of planes from the first plane the Wright Brothers made  to now, Mr McKinnon pretended to be one of the Wright Brothers with a piece of paper that look like a moustache.  Next we saw a Spitfire which was used in the Battle of Britain, I loved it, it was really cool.

  • Book Week

    Fri 10 Mar 2023

At Monks Risborough School we had book week 27th Feb – 3rd March.  On Monday author of Don’t Worry Be Happy and many other books, Poppy O’Neill came to talk to us about her books, her career in writing and answer some of our questions.  She encouraged us to make our own worry monsters and put our worries inside to help us feel better.  She was very inspirational and we thoroughly enjoyed her visit.

Throughout the week we had a book swap, where pupils bring in a book have finished and are happy to exchange for another book.  Everybody had a chance to pick a book.  During the week the school bell was rung and we stopped what we were doing and read our books.  Every class had a different writing project for example Year 6 had to write a persuasive letter to a character from Poppy’s book.  In art Year 6 made we folded down a shoe box and created a scene from a book which we have displayed in our school library and classroom.

On Thursday everyone dressed up in a costume from their favourite book.  There were some very interesting costumes including Willy Wonka and Gangsta Granny!

We had lots of fun challenges including a sponsored read where the two winners, the person who raised the most and the person who read the most, pied Mr Mullen in the face!! Pictures can be seen on the school website.

  • Tiny Forest Planted at PRS

    Thu 09 Feb 2023

Tiny Forest planted on February 9th 2023

A few of us from Yr 5 & 6 went to PRS to plant trees for a Tiny Forest.  We went through the gates to the big field, we listened to a lady on how to plant the trees. After that we got our own tree and spade and planted our tree.  My trees was a birch, which had a tag on it so that we can find it and measure it in the future.  We then put mulch around the base of the tree to help it stay moist.  There were other people from school in our area helping too.  We had good fun and I especially like the digging!
