On Monday 1st June, Monks Eco Team took part in a mini climate audit, focusing predominantly on the playground and green spaces around the school. This was led by Cindy Grant, from Learning Through Landscapes. The team carried out temperature checks of different surfaces in different areas and found some very surprising results!
The children learnt that our trees are amazing at storing carbon, which can help keep the planet cool (and us during break times!) They also analysed the ground cover at Monks, discussed the importance of green space and began to consider how we can increase wildlife and flora in the school grounds, which will also help to keep us cool at Monks, especially during the summer months.
We are looking forward to further work alongside Learning Through Landscapes, to develop our outdoor spaces!
