Spring Half Term 1
This half term the children will be carrying out their learning through the lead topic of science - answering the question, 'How did Rosie Revere Persevere?' The children will be learning about forces and magnets and our class reading book will be 'Rosie Revere, Engineer'. In English the children will be writing a narrative and a recount text. In maths, the learning will be based around the topic of multiplication - developing methods of formal multiplication.
w/c 2nd February
Kestrels have enjoyed a busy week, investigating metals in science and observing whether they are magnetic or not, recording their findings in charts and making conclusions.
In English, the children have started a new topic of poetry using Rosie Revere as inspiration. They wrote rhyming poems and learnt how to count the syllables in words.
In maths, Kestrels are continuing the topic of measurement and have started to add and subtract mm, cm and m. They have also learnt how to convert units of measure to make the addition and subtraction easier.
w/c 26th January
This week in Kestrels class the children have enjoyed writing their own stories based on our class reader, Rosie Revere. They have also begun to focus on measurement in maths, specifically measuring and being precise in their work. We also made fat balls for the birds to participate in The Big Garden Birdwatch that took place last weekend.
In RE the children recreated the Hindu story of Rama and Sita.
w/c 12th January
The children have loved their work this week on Rosie Revere engineer! We discussed Rosie - the main character, and how she perseveres even when times become challenging for her. In maths, the children have continued to learn multiplication methods using counters and base 10 to support their learning. In science the children thoroughly enjoyed investigating different surfaces and how they affect the speed at which a toy car travels!

Welcome back to both parents and children!
Class 3 have been exceptionally busy over the past 2 days. The children have started the topic of 'forces' in science and also thoroughly enjoyed the 'hook lesson' I planned to introduce them to the idea of engineering, in preparation for Kestrels' class reader - Rosie Revere, Engineer. The children worked collaboratively to design and build a bridge that would support my toy car across two desks.
In maths, the children are continuing the topic of multiplication and this week we have been focusing on methods of calculating complicated equations using prior knowledge.
