3. A Toy Story

What are we learning about this half term?

This half term our main topic is entitled 'A Toy Story.' With a focus on history, we are going to learn all about toys that our parents and grandparents played with in the past and identify the similarities and differences between them and the toys we play with today.

Thinking about our value of generosity, we are going to answer the question, 'Were our families in the past more generous than we are now?'

We are going to focus on two fantastic texts this term: 'Dogger' by Shirley Hughes and 'Traction Man is Here' by Mini Grey.

In Maths, we are learning about place value for numbers10 - 20, looking carefully at the value each of the digits represents. We will first explore this with concrete objects such as Dienes (base 10) and Numicon before applying our understanding to pictures and numbers. We'll also be learning to write these numbers as words.

Our Science learning returns to the seasons of the UK and extends to looking at weather patterns. We can't wait to explore the wind power/direction and rainfall - stay tuned to find out how the children decide to observe and measure these!
